"But the important thing here is that my baby’s engaged!!!"
"Took them long enough!"
"Who are you texting anyway?"
"Mama! She told me to let her know how things went. Huh. Does this mean I’ll have to call Ginny Mom too?”
"I’m pretty sure she’ll let you call her whatever you want. Now it’s time for us to get going!"
"Huh? Aren’t we going back with them?"
"Nah. Let’s give them a little time to themselves."
"Aaaaaand they’ve officially forgotten about us! Figures."
"What’s going on Aunt Tin? You haven’t let me watch!"
"Don’t worry about it, Vivi."
"I can’t believe it!"
"Yeah, I know, I’m way behind the curve on this one. But I couldn’t really propose until I sorted things out. And then I tried to write out a whole speech. I only got three words down, though."
"Really? And what were those?"
"Ginger Rose Tisane. And that gave me all the courage I needed."
"Is this a yes, or are you going into hysterics?"
"Ven!! Of course I’ll marry you!!"
"Okay?! You’re so calm!!"
"Are you kidding? My heart’s pounding and my hands are shaking. You aren’t too easy on my heart, Ginny."
"Ginger? Will you marry me?"
"I was kind of hoping today would be the anniversary of the day you agreed to be my wife."
"Do you remember what I said when I came back?"
"How could I forget? You said that you didn’t want to live a single day without me from now on."
"And I meant it. I couldn’t have imagined it then, but I’m happier now than I ever think I’ve been. Living with you. Waking up next to you every morning. Raising Vivi with you. It’s all been pretty incredible. I’m awful with anniversaries, because honestly? Every day feels like something to celebrate when I’m with you."
"Really? Then I guess I can’t make this the anniversary of one of my favorite dates, huh?"
"Well…maybe it can be special for a different reason."
"I know I’m not great about expressing my feelings. Silly, superficial things are easier, but the deeper things - the things that really matter - are often the ones I leave you guessing at."
"Well, I’ve gotten pretty good at guessing. I know you pretty well!"
"You do. You really do. But that doesn’t mean I shouldn’t say it."
"Surely you won’t begrudge me a couple flowers?"
"Oh wow! These are so pretty!! And…super expensive! A dozen roses cost a lot out of season! Ven, I told you no presents!"
"Not even roses for Ginger Rose?"
